waxing Arabic

He who knows

He who knows and know he knows
He is wise and you should follow him
He who knows and knows not he knows
He is asleep and you must wake him
He who knows not and knows not he knows not
He is foolish and you should shun him
He who knows not and knows he knows not
He is childish and you must teach him.

The Arabian proverbs had an understanding
The wise words passed on from man to man
The wisdom is all part of life and the way of it
The learning must come if one will embrace it.

Who is the fool, who knows not?
And why do they follow him?
Who is the wise, knowing he knows
And why do they scorn him?
Who is the child, knowing not?
And who will teach them
Who are the sleepers, knowing not that they know?
And why do they follow the fool?

The sleepers know without recognition
            They are knowledge without ambition
The child can know without prejudice
            He is growth into knowledge
The wise knows without self importance
            He understands with reason
The fool knows without understanding
            He is experience without wisdom.
